Every one of our ingredients is sought with love. We aim to find teas from all over the world grown by small scale artisans. Our goal is full transparency in the process. When you read our labels, you know exactly which region your tea was grown as opposed to just calling it "black tea". Instead, you will know your Guurl Grey contains Sri Lankan Ceylon and Indian Assam because you deserve to know where your tea originated. Our blending florals, botanicals, and spices are 100% organically, fair trade, and kosher sourced, and we think that is important. You can taste the difference.
Good tea requires rigorous testing. Cupping is our method of discovering the nuances of a tea, and our inspiration comes to highlight those nuances. Inspiration also comes from trying to capture a special moment or feeling. When you sip Cuddle Bug, you can tell this cup of tea was crafted by gentlemen wearing snuggies who tend to spike their tea as a hot toddy. Finding inspiration is easy and difficult for us all at once, but it is what we were called to do as tea blenders. From inspiration, we trial and test our tea blends for months at a time, modifying until it is perfect. If you've ever tasted our Marin DILF, you can see what we mean.
In a world of cement mixers, mega factories, and maybe robots blending conventional tea with loads of freaky artificial and freakier 'natural' flavorings, the art of tea blending has been masked for decades. We have been called to bring this art back to a smaller scale. One bowl at a time, we hand sift herbs and teas, hand crush spices with a mortar & pestle, and blend tea counter clockwise to put good energy and love into the batch. Everything is done by hand because we call ourselves artisans and hold ourselves to higher standards. Is this labor intensive and expensive? Hell yes. YOU deserve the best.
